In case of cancellations or delays, railway companies are obliged to inform you about how the situation develops. It’s good to know that if they announce that you will reach your final destination with a delay of at least an hour, you can cancel your trip and request immediate fare reimbursement (in full or only for the segment of the journey they did not covered). If the delay prevents you meet the purpose of the journey, you can take advantage of free transportation back to the point of departure or to continue your journey at the earliest opportunity or at a later date of your choice. This solution may involve other vehicles, if the train is blocked, and those services were suspended.
You also have the right to receive snacks and refreshments (depending on waiting time), but also benefit from accommodation – if you have to wait overnight.
The payment in vouchers or cash (on request) must be made within one month of the filing of the complaint. As a rule, the compensation will be paid only if it is at least 4 euros . Special rules apply to subscription compensations.
