So far, 2012 was the best year when it comes to building new highways in Romania, if we take into account that 140 kilometers have been constructed last year. Nevertheless, Romania is at the last position when comparing to European countries. The weakest countries are in Africa and they have about the same number of highway kilometers as Romania that “managed” to build 500 kilometers in well over two decades. But, CNADNR announced that this year, our country would have 230 highway kilometers more. Out of these, 224 kilometers will be solely in Transilvania.
Last year, CNADNR’s quota stopped at 140 highway kilometers, and funny as it might seem, it’s actually a best in Romania’s history. After two and a half decades since the beginning of the project, the second Romanian highway that links Bucharest to Constanta (over a distance of 211 kilometers) has been completed. In July 2012 the first segment of 55 kilometers of the Bucharest-Brasov highways has been loudly and emphatically inaugurated.
