”We are seeing a drastic traffic decrease. This year’s first quarter volume was 1,2 million tons, compared to our 3 million tons estimate, spread across the ports of Galati, Braila, and Tulcea,“ said Mihai Ochialbescu, general manager of APFM.

A positive thing is that traffic increased in March up to 560.000 tons of cargo, but even this is way below expectations of up to one million tons. Fearing budgetary constrains, APDM asked subsidies for dredging and other works needed in the ports.

In order to attract more containerised cargo, APDM and the River Administration of the Lower Danube (AFDJ for short in Romanian) decided to halve the transit fee for the Sulina canal and the docking fees in the port of Galati for container ships.
