The decline in rail passenger transport market is more than evident if we look at the Eurostat statistics. Thus, after 2004, when there was a peak of 8.633 million passengers, rail traffic has entered a descending line, whose severity has increased after 2006.
Specifically, the number of passengers who choose to travel by train fell by half, from 8.065 million in 2006 to 4,518 million in 2012, according to Eurostat. And the overall passenger traffic, rail holds last place with 13 percent, while individual car traffic is 64.5%.
