Michelin X® MULTI™ D tires were created to equip the rear motor axle of trucks and small buses of under 16 tones, and for regional, urban and suburban transportation, in all weather conditions. “Keeping in mind that the tire market for small and medium tires is in decline since 2011, Michelin offers through the X® MULTI™ D tire a reliable solution, which allows the end user to focus on their main activity”, said Spyros Politis, Marketing Director of Central and Southern Europe.
He stated that the Romanian market is an important one for premium tires, which Michelin represents, holding a market share of 45% in 2012. Spyros Politis thinks that in 2014 there will be a “slight increase of the small and medium truck tire market, maintaining this year’s trend”, that would follow a three year period of continuous decrease.
In these conditions, the market share for the small and medium truck tires is of 10% out of the total market share, an important percentage. In 75% of the cases, these type of vehicles run under 100.000 km annually and are used by independent, small companies. In order to satisfy the customer needs, the vehicle must be able to operate without pause. Reliability and safety are essential for transporters. The end users demand efficient, safe and reliable tires, which allows them to focus on their main activity. For them it is important to be able to ensure an activity without any issue, avoiding the risk of not reaching their customer.
The new Michelin tires have a constant performance throughout the year and will run with up to 18% more kilometers. Also, the fuel consumption is decreased, due to a 12% decrease of rolling resistance. The X® MULTI™ D have improved noise suppression, which represents an advantage for vehicles that run mainly in urban environment. The tires offer an optimum maneuverability due to the deep profile and an economy of energy and raw materials. The Michelin officials said that the new tires offer the end user improved mileage by 25%, thanks to regrooving.
