Augustin Hagiu, President of the Romanian Transport Operators Federation (FORT, in Romanian), who became an unpleasant dialogue partner in the discussions between the Ministry and the employers’ associations, explained why a harsh attitude from the transporters would be necessary.

RBT: You announced a national protest on April 13th and 14th, but this is not the first time these threats are being made. Will there be a real strike or another kind of ample manifestation?

Augustin Hagiu: Up to now, organizing a protest was not an impeachment and no steps to reaching the right authorization were made. I cannot provide you with many organizational details, but I can tell you there will be an ample, national manifestation, which targets all the great cities, the great cities’ ring-roads and the intersections of the national and European roads.

RBT: So a nationally coordinated manifestation is absolutely necessary?

A.H.: We have already made a protest in Bucharest and we’ve seen how hard is to get there and how few effects can be reached. I think the only way to produce the desired effects is to apply a tough stroke. And when I said stroke, I was referring to the entire road transport movement in Romania.
