Registrations of new cars in France fell by 12.3% in May this year compared to May last year, according to data published by the Plateforme automobile (PFA), the organization that represents manufacturers and suppliers of automotive components.
A total of 123,919 cars were registered in France last month. This year, May had 19 working days, the same as last year. The 12.3% decline in May comes after a 5.6% decline in April and continues a downward trend recorded in recent months.

In the first five months of the year, the car market in France registered a decrease of 8.25% compared to the same period last year, with 672,700 cars registered.
PFA data also show that the sales of the Renault group (which brings together the Renault, Dacia and Alpine brands) registered a decline of 6.96% on the French market in May, while the registrations of the Stellantis group (Peugeot, Citroen, DS and Opel) fell by 10.12% in May this year, compared to May last year.
As for the American electric car manufacturer Tesla, its registrations plummeted by 67.18% in May, when only 721 Tesla cars were registered in France. In the first five months, Tesla registrations in France fell by almost half, with a decline of 47.23%, while overall the French market recorded a decline of 8.25%.
