Sales of electrified vehicles in the European Union accounted for almost half of all new car registrations in the EU bloc in the first 11 months of 2023, and already exceeded the 50% threshold in November, data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) showed on Wednesday, Reuters reports.
Electrified vehicles accounted for 47.6% of all new car registrations in the EU between January and November 2023. The percentage is up from 43% in the first 11 months of 2022. New car registrations in the EU increased by 15.7% in the first 11 months of 2023. In the same period in 2022, 9.68 million units were registered.

ACEA data show that new car registrations in Europe (EU plus UK and EFTA countries) increased by 6% in November. It represents the 16th consecutive month of growth, following improved demand for electric vehicles. Romania, however, reported a 0.5% advance.
The statistics are valid for the 27 Member States of the European Union, plus the United Kingdom and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
Sales of electric vehicles have increased in Europe
A total of 1.075 million cars were registered in November in Europe. In 2022, 1.014 million units were registered in the same period. Sales of battery-powered vehicles were up 4.9%, petrol 4.4%. Deliveries of diesel-powered vehicles fell by 10.7%.
Major European markets reported significant increases in November: Italy (16.2%), France (14%), the UK (9.5%), Spain (7%), with the exception of Germany, which saw a decline of 5.7%, ACEA data show.
