The BMW Group’s Regensburg plant reaches a total production of 330.000 units this year. More than 100.000 of these are fully electric vehicles.

The BMW Group Plant in Regensburg has reached a new major milestone: as planned, the threshold of 100.000 electric vehicles produced since the beginning of the year was reached in mid-December.

The 100.000th electric car to roll off the assembly line in Regensburg was a BMW iX1. The vehicle is Blue Bay Lagoon color. It will be shipped abroad, to the island of Réunion. The factory has been producing this compact model since November 2022.

„We offer a very wide range of electric vehicles in all key segments. Our German plants produce these vehicles for the global market. We are making a major contribution to the growth of electric mobility.,” said Milan Nedeljković, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, who was present in Regensburg to mark the event.

The BMW Regensburg plant registered a record 100,000 electric cars. They were assembled in 2024.

Armin Ebner notes that with „the BMW iX1 and BMW iX2 models, we meet the needs of our customers. I am particularly proud of our team at the Regensburg plant. The team once again showed extraordinary commitment and flexibility despite volatile market conditions. We have achieved our projected growth target for Regensburg in 20024 regarding the production of electric cars, as promised.”

More than a third of the vehicles built at our plant this year have been electrified – i.e. a plug-in hybrid or an electric model. In 2024, we will substantially exceed last year’s level of 238.301 BMW vehicles built in Regensburg – with a total annual production of more than 330,000 units.

Record 100.000 electric cars assembled

More than 1.400 BMW X1 and BMW X2 models currently roll off the production line at the BMW Group Plant in Regensburg every working day. The base BMW X1 will be produced with all drive variants: as a combustion engine and plug-in hybrid vehicle, alongside the electric BMW iX1.

Excellent Large Series Assembly

The BMW Group plant in Regensburg has been in existence since 1986. This is one of more than 30 production sites of the Bavarian group worldwide. A total of up to 1.400 vehicles from the BMW X1 and BMW X2 ranges roll off the production line at the Regensburg plant every day for customers around the world. Different types of drive systems are manufactured flexibly on a single production line – from combustion engine vehicles to plug-in hybrid or electric models.

The production facility was recognized as the „Plant of the Year” 2024 in the „Excellent Large Series Assembly” category of the prestigious industrial competition. As it implements the BMW iFACTORY, the BMW Group is focusing on the digitalisation of the Regensburg plant. The purpose is to create a digital, intelligently connected factory. It is already possible to experience in virtual form what the plant will look like in a few years. NEUE KLASSE, the next generation of BMW vehicles, will increase in Regensburg in the second half of the decade.
