The Romanian inland waterway shipping company NAVROM transports more than 10 million tonnes of a wide variety of goods every year. NAVROM transports over 10 million tonnes of cargo annually. These include ore, coal, cement, limestone, grain, fertilisers, rolled products, parts and equipment. These goods travel both domestic and international routes to Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Germany.

NAVROM has a tradition of more than 100 years as one of Europe’s leading inland shipping companies. The company offers its customers integrated services: cargo transport, passenger transport, ship repair, ship design and outfitting.

The company’s cargo fleet comprises covered and uncovered barges with capacities between 1,000 and 3,000 tonnes, barges and hoppers with capacities of 1,000-1,100 tonnes and tank barges with capacities of 1,300 tonnes. For propulsion and manoeuvring, CNFR NAVROM SA has pushers of between 800 and 3,600 hp and tugs of 400-550 hp.

Fleet modernization

Benefiting from IFC/World Bank funding, NAVROM carried out an extensive fleet modernisation programme in 2006-2007, which consisted of the refitting and complete equipping of 14 liner pushers. Subsequently, the programme continued with its own funds, with the modernisation of 7 manoeuvring pushers, four 1,600 hp shallow draught pushers purchased in 2011-2015 and two other 2,500 hp liner pushers already in the company’s fleet.

Freight transport in 20 days from Constanta to Kelheim (Germany)

NAVROM transports in a single convoy up to 15,000 tonnes of cargo on domestic routes and 10,000 tonnes on external routes. The cargo route between Constanta and Rotterdam is shortened by about 5,000 km along the European Danube-Main-Rhine waterway. On this route NAVROM carries cargo from Constanta to Kelheim (Germany) in 20 days.
