The local subsidiary of the Serbian company NIS, controlled by Gazprom, has received the license to supply electricity from Romania.

This is one of the decisions adopted by the Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). The company can now sell electricity to end customers in our country.

Gazprom becomes an electricity supplier in Romania

NIS Petrol SRL is the local company owned by the Serbian company NIS. This is in turn controlled by the Russian giant Gazprom. The company has been active in Romania since 2012, especially in the fuel retail segment. The company now operates a network of 19 gas stations in Romania, under the Gazprom brand. Most of them are located in the Transylvania area. This figure has remained unchanged for many years, despite the big plans announced when entering the local market.

Gazprom becomes an electricity supplier in Romania

The company has never managed to make a profit since its entry into the local market. In 2023, it reported a turnover of RON 283 million and losses of RON 63 million.

NIS Petrol also has a portfolio of six oil and gas blocks leased on the territory of Romania.

Gazprom bought the majority stake in Serbia’s national oil company, NIS, in 2009. The acquisition was $400 million. On this occasion, Gazprom became the owner of two refineries in Serbia, in Pancevo and Novi Sad.
