The state-owned airline Qatar Airways has signed an agreement to purchase aircraft from the American manufacturer Boeing.

Trump said the deal is worth $200 billion and includes 160 planes. Trump and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, attended the signing ceremony in Doha.

Qatar Airways has signed an agreement for 160 Boeing aircraft.

Trump said Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, who signed the deal with Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, along with Trump and the Emir of Qatar, told him that „it is the largest plane order in Boeing’s history,” which „is good.” Trump added: „It’s over $200 billion, but 160 planes is fantastic.

It is unclear which Boeing aircraft models will be part of the deal and whether Qatar’s orders are firm, requiring storage facilities and more contractual obligations, or are options.

Boeing no longer publishes list prices, but based on the latest published value for its most expensive jet, the 777X, an order for 160 long-haul aircraft would be worth about $70 billion. Aviation analysts say airlines usually get big discounts if they contract for a large batch of aircraft.

The White House said the agreements signed on Wednesday by President Donald Trump and Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, would generate „an economic exchange worth at least $1.2 trillion” ($1.2 trillion).
